Title:Charlie!
Posted On:August 26, 2010, 22:59 PM
Listing DetailWe're getting a doggie! We visited the litter last weekend and picked out our puppy, but we can't take him home until next Friday. I'm already head over heels in love with little Charlie! He's a Goldendoodle, which is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Standard Poodle. You get the sweet, loyal temperament of a Golden, with the hypoallergenic fur of a Poodle (which is awesome for Sneezy McSneezerson here). We took a bunch of pictures when we picked him out, so I thought I'd share so you can ooh and ahh over his cuteness with me :)

Title:Run For the Fallen
Posted On:August 20, 2010, 13:46 PM
Listing Detail

Hubby and I are doing a Run For the Fallen 5k walk/run tomorrow morning in Portland, OR. There are events all over the country. If you're interested in finding one in your area, click here. The Run For the Fallen started in 2008 when a friend of fallen service member decided to organize people to run a combined over 4,000 miles, one for each fallen service member. Since then, individual towns and groups across the country have organized their own races in memoriam. This year, I will be running in honor of our bloggy friend Mrs. P and her husband and fallen hero; Marine Cpl Jonathan Porto.

Title:Sassypants Award Debut!
Posted On:August 17, 2010, 18:52 PM
Listing DetailI've been wanting to create an award for quite a long time, and finally... here it is! I would like to debut the Sassypants Award from yours truly!

sassy |ˈsasē|
adjective ( -sier , -siest ) informal
lively, bold, and full of spirit; cheeky.

This award should be given to people you follow who are consistently witty, sassy, and silly. If you enjoy their sass and snark and want to commend them for it, the Sassypants Award will be the perfect gift to bestow :)

Here are the RULES:
1.) Thank the person who gave you the award :)
2.) Pass it on to at least 3 other sassy ladies!
3.) Post 3 sassy things about yourself that your readers may not already know!

Because I follow so many fantastic folks, and I can't possibly give the award to everyone, I've chosen 5 of the sassiest ladies I know. If you aren't on this list, it doesn't mean I don't love you or think you're sassy!

1.) Darling Birdie over at No Model Lady
2.) The lovely Rebecca Jane
3.) Miss Bethany at A Southern Belle and Her Officer
4.) The New Girl from New Girl On Post
5.) The Mrs. at Trying Our Best

Enjoy!

Lastly, here's 3 sassy things you might not already know about me.

1) I did gymnastics for 10 years when I was young. It was the 80s and they played Cold Hearted Snake on repeat in the gym. I wore scrunchies and neon.

2) I have a slight Post-It note problem. My favorite use for them is writing "You're Beautiful" and leaving them on the mirror in public restrooms.

3) I was seriously contemplating naming my new puppy (we get him in 3 weeks!) "Karma" so I could say "good Karma!!" or "BAD Karma!!" Hubby nixed the idea though. Party-pooper.

Title:28 Years
Posted On:August 11, 2010, 20:53 PM
Listing Detail
Monday was my 28th birthday (woot)! In honor of that milestone, here's a goofy baby picture of me and a list of 28 things I have learned in my 28 years on Earth!

1. Don't sweat the petty things, and don't pet the sweaty things. Solid advice, however you look at it.
2. Never say never. I once told my husband I'd never marry a soldier and I wouldn't sleep with him if he were the last man on Earth. FAIL.
3. Some people will stay your friends just because they always have been. If you had just met them now, you'd think they were weird. And they actually are. But you'll love them anyway because of the history.
4. Change is inevitable. And it's good. It's scary as hell, but it's good. Even when it's not good, it's still gonna happen whether you like it or not, so put on your big girl panties and get on board.
5. Don't crap where you eat. Taken literally... ew. But metaphorically, it's a bit of wisdom that has helped me a lot over the years.
6. Playing with fire doesn't always mean getting burned. I am a stubborn woman, and sometimes I'll do things that I know could end in disaster just to see if I can. Case in point - falling for my husband. He's a self-professed asshole who wasn't looking for a relationship. Recipe for a broken heart. But here we are 4 years later (2 of them married) and while he's still an asshole (hah!), my heart is intact and really quite full of love :)
7. There's no better way to gain some perspective than to leave the country. Every time I travel, I get a much better view of things about the U.S. that I hope will change and things that I love just the way they are.
8. Learn to cook by doing, not reading. Recipes certainly have their place, but there's no better teacher than opening up the cupboards, pulling a few things out, and attempting to make a meal out of them.
9. Growing your own veggies makes them taste infinitely better.
10. Owning a house is not for the faint of heart. When crap breaks, YOU have to fix it. But it's so worth it.
11. Owning an old house is even harder than owning a new one. But old houses have so much more character and if you treat em right, you'll be much happier than you would be in a cookie cutter subdivision.
12. In-laws aren't as scary as they're made out to be. Well, some people's might be, but mine rock!
13. You will turn into your mother. It's not an "if," it's a "when."
14. Just because it looks cute in the magazine, doesn't mean it will look cute on you. Dress for your body type, lifestyle, vocation, and location.
15. Your relationship with your parents will likely progress in an upside down bell curve. You start out thinking their awesome, when you're a teenager they become bumbling idiots (in your mind), then in your 20's they start getting cooler again. At around 26, things will level off and you'll find that they're really just normal people.
16. Money doesn't grow on trees. In fact, you have to work pretty darn hard to get it and then it disappears much too quickly.
17. There's a fine line between being able to tell some really funny "I was really drunk this one time, and..." stories, and becoming THAT girl. Have fun when you're young, but then grow up. Some people don't, and it's lame.
18. Always show up at the right place, at the right time, wearing the right hat. In other words, we all have different aspects to our personality... some of them for public consumption, and some of them notsomuch. Knowing when to put "snarky gal" away and bust out "charming lady" can make life infinitely more pleasurable for all.
19. When you wash your car, the birds will immediately crap on it.
20. What goes up must come down. This is true of gravity, relationships, the stock market, and so much more.
21. Even if you want to see the good in people, some just aren't worth the effort. It took me a long time to figure this one out. Yes, I do believe there's good in everyone. But no, I don't think everyone is worth the energy it takes to find it underneath all the crap.
22. No matter a person's age, hungry and/or tired always equals cranky. You'll have a much better chance of not throttling your husband if you feed him, and let him take a nap. Same goes for me.
23. If all else fails, take a walk. It usually helps clear your head, and if not it at least wears you out a bit.
24. Ignoring things you don't want to do doesn't make them go away. After 28 years, I'm still working on this one.
25. Wasting time isn't always a waste. Some of my favorite moments are spent "wasting" time.
26. If you're bored, you're boring. Get hobbies, learn things, read books. Be interesting to yourself.
27. Happiness really is a result of your attitude. We all have crap days, and there are lots of jerks in the world, but in the end it's up to us to decide how much we let those things affect our lives.
28. Life goes on.
