Title:Hello Torkum Gate
Posted On:February 23, 2010, 04:07 AM
Listing DetailWell I'm here in Torkum Gate got here Feb 10th. part of the company is here. Not a bad place to stay, pretty nice living conditions and over all not a bad place to live. BUT what a bullshit mission!!! gate guard at a place we can't even make a difference.
Torkum is the central hub where the flow of traffic goes through too and from Afghanistan and Pakistan. Picture San Diego and Tijuana with Tijuana control points at both ends yea, a nightmare. So here we are a full infantry company guarding a gate what a waste of man power and equipment and a fine INFANTRY company. The area we are in is pretty much safe due to the fact that a major amount of money flows through this area. So if they attack us the bad guys reduce the flow of money which pisses off the local because they lose money. I've Been the gate, has that border look to it lots of local shops selling goods (for some reason a lot of Toyota parts). Did a foot patrol through the general population friendly people for the most part, just people trying to survive and provide for their families. Kids are really friendly asking for dollars or chocolate, really don't want to give them candies because before you know it you got a crowd of kids begging for anything and everything you got and you got this huge crowd making it impossible to move. But the kids are great.
Went on a H.A.(humanitarian aid) run the other day and dropped off goods to the local village. Couldn't believe the amount of kids in this village asking for anything you got. The big thing they are always asking for is PENS so they can WRITE in school and draw pictures. Kids life here is pretty rough its hard life growing up in Afghanistan starting from childhood to adult life. Make you think how lucky we really are and the thing we as Americans take for granted.

Title:Finally overseas
Posted On:February 6, 2010, 00:00 AM
Listing DetailWell I havent written for a while been busy training. 1 month in attuburry IN. and almost 1 month in JRTC LA.
Let me start this off telling you 1st Indiana weather sucks (cold as Antartica) Weather ranged from - 10 to a high of 44 degrees pretty much froze our ass off everyday. I hated the training facility and billeting was substandard. How did we live... have to turn on multiple showers to get hot water and pretty disgusting green shit growning on the shower walls. Most everyone got sick because of the weather but still we bunked in the same room with no circulation. (yeah streep throat!!!) Heater never worked, lets clean up the room hello dust cloud. Their probably more stuff I cant account for. (Thanks to some lobbiest soldiers have to suffer because of greed, hey moron lets put the soldier 1st instead of your bank account). Training here was pretty much your normal stuff weapons quals, IED lanes, vehicle familarization, MOUNT training and other associated skills needed for deployment. Did I tell you I am a FIST (fire support specialist) I call indirect fire but how many live call for fire did we do "0" a big fat ZERO!!!! oh I guess the fire simulator was enough training for an active combat zone.
Well christmas is finally here got to go home for Christmas Exodus 22 Dec to 2 Jan. Had a good time got to see my new wife, family and friends. Oh did I tell you I volunteered for this Cluster F' mission. So conetticut guard guard got a PASS which means they did'nt get charged leave. What did we the volunteers get... a screw up our "ASS" with no KY jelly!!! we got charged for 11 days of leave!!! The way I figure it I lost $1500.00+ because if this B.S. thanks 1st ARMY "way to take care of soldiers."(idiots) Don't worry I'm hoping to take this to an I.G. complaint. And I hope the morons up top get fired or demoted for their stupidity.

Ok now its Jan 2 2010 back at the dump Atubetrry not much to do. Fast foward now Jan. 6 now we are in JRTC La. what a nut roll this was!!! No flight a 12 hrs. bus ride to hell.Housing they stick us at some F.O.B.in the middle of the forest that is capable of holding 600 joes. But what the F' happens... here comes 101 airborne with there 600 joes and who gets screwed the Nasty Girls (national guard). So 1200 people one FOB you get the point some one is getting sh*t on and who was on the bottom... Infact word was that JRTC wasnt even expecting us for a rotation!!! Ok so lets stick 600 guys in 2 big tents and all their gear... what a huge nut roll incompetence, incompetence, incompetence.
The one thing I really cant complain about was the training excellent all the way through. Pretty realistic but some of the O.C.s need to go back to school this is 2010 Afghanistan not 2006 Iraq... less threat posturing and more building partnership with the natives. Wow all this in 2 month what a ride.
Feb. 3 2010 on a plane from Alexandria La. to Maine to Germany and now here in Kyrgyzstan manas. Damn this place is paradise then again its an Air Force base cant really complain about the facilities. Ok now your caught up to our adventure hopefully I can get you updates daily.

Subject: Had to pass this on to you.

New Christmas Poem

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
'SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY! COUNTRY, MY CORPS.'

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, 'CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.'

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
'MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,!
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.'

This poem was written by a Marine.

The following is his request. I think it is reasonable.....

PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending
this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming
soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men,
women, and Canadian Forces for our being able to celebrate these festivities.
Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we
owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and
dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your
small part to plant this small seed
